According to Ayurveda, the eyes are governed by the Pitta Dosha, which represents Fire and a little Water. Pitta is responsible for digesting food, thoughts, incoming information, everything you see and touch. On a Spiritual level, Pitta can help you to comprehend and literally see the truth. Being mindful of what we look at on our screens and out in the world is one way of caring for our spiritual vision. Another beautiful practice to include in your routine is eye washing. Physically this practice cleans, strengthens, and beautifies the eyes. Spiritually, eye washing can be done with the intention of having mental clarity.
Equally important is caring for our mind. Thoughts, music, conversations, TV, video games… all of this has to get digested! If we overdo it, it’s kind of like when we overeat and our body develops digestive issues, our mind does too! Being mindful of sensory impressions and checking in with yourself are good ways to manage Pitta in the mind. Listen to beautiful music, have uplifting conversations, and look for the beauty in everything!
